Peace Poster Contest

Each year, Lions Club around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. The art contest encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. Nederland Lions sponsor the Peace Poster Contest for Nederland Middle School students ages 11-13. This year's theme was Dare to Dream.

Local artists volunteer to judge the posters based on originality, artistic merit, and expression of the theme. A reception is held where students display and talk about their posters, and cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The winning poster advances to the district level competition, and may further advance to state and international levels of competition.

At the 2023 Peace Poster Awards, Lion President Ann Marie Morgan shared, "Nederland Lions Club started sponsoring the Peace Poster Contest in collaboration with the school 19 years ago for a couple of reasons: to give recognition to the young artists, and to encourage our youth to express their thoughts on peace. And we have not been disappointed by the artistic talent over the years nor by the depth of thought behind the posters."
